Ver un crimen en calma es cometerlo, nos enseñó el Héroe Nacional de Cuba, José Martí, hace más de un siglo.

Los periodistas cubanos exhortamos a los colegas de todo el mundo a que no se hagan cómplices de una injusticia.

En Miami, ciudad-albergue de terroristas, laboratorio de la muerte, desde hace tres años hay cinco cubanos presos. Desde ayer, y en forma escalonada, la jueza encargada del caso irá dictando sentencias que pudieran incluir la cadena perpetua al menos para tres de ellos. Ninguno de los cinco es culpable. Los fiscales no pudieron probar la culpabilidad, los abogados probaron la inocencia.

La mayoría de ustedes tal vez ni han sido informados. Salvo el caso natural de la prensa de Miami, para el resto de los medios impresos y electrónicos hasta ahora no ha sido noticia que cinco cubanos estén injustamente en la cárcel.

El 11 de septiembre el salvajismo destruyó las Torres Gemelas de Nueva York. El hecho, con razón, conmocionó al mundo. Los medios de prensa durante semanas no hablaron de otro tema.

En ninguna ciudad cubana los terroristas pueden destruir rascacielos, porque no existen. En cambio, pueden cometer otras acciones de horror. Los terroristas que desde hace más de 40 años actúan desde Estados Unidos, han matado a jóvenes maestros, a indefensos pescadores, a mujeres, a obreros, a campesinos. O han hecho estallar un avión civil en pleno vuelo. O han explotado bombas en hoteles para matar turistas extranjeros. Son miles los asesinados, miles los huérfanos provocados por el terrorismo. A todo esto hay que añadir la guerra biológica, el intento de asesinar a dirigentes cubanos, el sabotaje a oficinas cubanas en el exterior, el asesinato de diplomáticos en los propios Estados Unidos.

Por eso los cinco prisioneros del imperio, tampoco han sido noticia para los grandes medios.

El Buró Federal de Investigaciones y las autoridades de Estados Unidos conocen perfectamente los planes y acciones de los grupos terroristas que actúan en Miami. Pero siempre han mantenido la indiferencia o la complicidad. La tolerancia frente a los terroristas de Miami ha sido el comportamiento de las autoridades de Estados Unidos. Un terrorista de origen cubano puede hacer estallar un avión en pleno vuelo, matar a 73 personas, y luego gozar de libertad en territorio estadounidense.

Todo eso explica que cinco patriotas cubanos tuvieran que cumplir el honesto, limpio y sagrado deber de proteger a su país, de proponerse evitar la muerte, de impedir el terror.

Ellos nunca pretendieron dañar al pueblo norteamericano, ni su integridad; ni intentaron poner en peligro la seguridad de Estados Unidos. Ni siquiera conocer sus secretos militares.

Estos cinco hombres vigilaban a terroristas despiadados, enemigos de lo humano, capaces de quemar, al estilo fascista, una obra de arte.

Por oponerse al terror contra su país, ahora pueden ser condenados a cadena perpetua, a no disfrutar más de su familia, a no ver crecer a sus hijos, a no volver a pisar jamás la tierra que los vio nacer.

Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, René González y Fernando González, son hombres que aman la vida, ciudadanos ejemplares, de alto espíritu, sentido del humor, sensibles a la poesía, dignos, amantes de su familia y elevado patriotismo. Son hombres cultos, exponentes del alto nivel cultural alcanzado por el pueblo cubano. Hombres de pensamiento y convicciones.

Ellos no merecen ir a la cárcel. No lo merecen desde el punto de vista legal, porque su inocencia quedó demostrada en el juicio que se siguió contra ellos, ni desde el punto de vista moral y humano, porque defienden una causa justa y noble.

Quienes honestamente dicen oponerse hoy al terrorismo, debieran, lejos de condenarlos, rendirles homenaje a estos cinco patriotas.

Los periodistas cubanos, que sentimos como una ofensa a la dignidad lo que se hace contra nuestros hermanos en Miami, exhortamos a nuestros colegas de todas las naciones a que investiguen por su cuenta la verdad y la expongan ante el mundo.

La palabra no es para encubrir la verdad, sino para decirla, advirtió José Martí. Nosotros los invitamos a que escriban, hablen, filmen, hagan artículos y reportajes. Encuentren, por favor, respuesta a esta pregunta: ¿Es posible oponerse al terrorismo en el mundo y a la vez llevar a la cárcel a cinco personas que combaten a los terroristas? La honestidad de cada colega hará las conclusiones.

Por nuestra parte, estamos dispuestos a ofrecerles toda la información que tenemos sobre este caso.

Por favor, colegas del mundo, no hagan silencio: callar es matar. La ética, la dignidad y el prestigio de la profesión de periodistas, hay que defenderlo con la verdad. Informen a sus lectores, televidentes y radioyentes: en Miami, madriguera de terroristas, se condena a luchadores antiterroristas.

The Cuban journalists call their colleagues all over the World not to become accomplices of an injustice.

Five Cuban citizens have been in jail for three years in Miami, the terrorists' city-housing. Since yesterday, and in staggered way, the judge in charge of the case will probably dictate sentences of life imprisonment for at least three of them. None of the five is guilty. The attorneys could not prove the guilt, the lawyers proved the innocence.

Most of you perhaps neither have been informed of this. Except for the natural case of the Miami press, for the rest of the printed and electronic media up to now it has not been headlines that five Cubans are wrongly in jail.

On September 11 the savagery destroyed the Twin Towers of New York City. This action logically shocked the world. During weeks, the media didn't speak about another topic.

In any Cuban city the terrorists cannot destroy sky-scrapers, because they don't exist. On the other hand, they can carry out other horror actions.

For more than 40 years terrorists acting from the United States have killed young teachers, defenseless fishermen, women, workers and peasants. They made explode a civil airplane on flight. Or they have exploited bombs in hotels to kill foreign tourists. Thousands of people have been murdered, thousands are the orphans caused by terrorism. To all this it is added the biological war, the murdering attempts of Cuban leaders, the sabotage to Cuban offices abroad, and the murdering of diplomats just in the United States.

That’s why these five prisoners of the Empire, haven’ t been on the news for the big media.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations and the US authorities know perfectly the plans and actions of the terrorist groups acting in Miami. But they have always maintained indifference or complicity. Regarding the Miami terrorists, tolerance has been the behavior of the authorities of the United States. A Cuban origin terrorist can make explode an airplane in the middle of the flight, to kill 73 people, and then to live free in the American territory.

All that explains that five Cuban patriots had to accomplish the honest, clean and sacred duty of protecting their country, just intending to avoid death and terror.

They never sought to hurt the American people or damage any American city, neither they tried to put in danger the US security. Not even to know military secrets.

These five men watched over merciless terrorists, enemies of the human being, people who is able to burn, in a real fascist style, a painting masterpiece.

For facing terrorism against their country, now they can be condemned to life imprisonment, to keep away from their family, not seeing their children grow or not stepping the homeland again.

Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, René González and Fernando González are exemplary citizens, men who love life, of high spirit and sense of humor, sensitive to poetry, worthy, lovers of their family and high patriotism. They are learned men, exponents of the high cultural level reached by the Cuban people. Men of thought and convictions.

They don't deserve to go to the jail. They don't deserve it from a legal point of view, because their innocence was demonstrated during the trial, neither from the moral and human point of view, because the defend a fair and noble cause.

Today, who are honestly opposed to terrorism, far from condemning them, should make a homage to these five patriots.

The Cuban journalists, considering offensive to the dignity what is made against our brothers in Miami, call our colleagues from all the nations to reach the truth by themselves and expose it to the world.

The word is not to hide the truth, but to say it, José Martí noticed. We invite you to write, speak, make articles and reports. Do please find an answer to this question: Is it possible to be opposed to terrorism in the world and at the same time to put in jail to five people who combat to the terrorists? Each colleague's honesty will make the conclusions.
