Como la llamarada que bautiza a una ceremonia del Vodú, síntesis del espíritu haitiano. Como el recuerdo todavía emigrante de mi abuelo y las cenizas de sus sueños. Como la belleza de la calabaza y sus semillas. Como la estrella de sus héroes y el arco iris de sus escritores y de sus artistas.

Así la historia de Haití: esperanza de libertad, razón de la vida, raíz de la cultura.

Entre nuestras aguas azules navegamos, caribeños, las islas se saludan, las tierras firmes se unen. Un tambor despierta al tiempo para conmemorar el año próximo el Bicentenario de la Independencia de Haití, con el símbolo de una campanada.

Desde nuestra unidad y desde nuestra identidad, la Casa del Caribe convoca, con el coauspicio de la UNEAC (Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba) y del ICAP (Instituto Cubano de Amistad con los Pueblos), a la XXIV edición del Festival del Caribe, "Fiesta del Fuego", en saludo a esta eterna efeméride de la tierra de Toussaint Loverture.

Entonces desde el 3 hasta el 9 de julio del 2004 estarán con nosotros los esclavos y los cimarrones de entonces. Sonara una campana y temblará un tambor. Martha Jean Claude nos cantará una canción. Y después el arco iris.

Casa del Caribe and the Ministry of Culture summon, with the co sponsorship of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), to the XXIV edition of the Caribbean Festival, "Feast of Fire", dedicated to the commemoration of the Bicentennial of Haiti’s Independence. From the 3rd to the 9th of July, 2004, the city of Santiago de Cuba will be the center of this celebration.

As the blaze that baptizes a Voodoo ceremony, synthesis of the Haitian spirit. As the still emigrate memory of my grandfather and the ashes of his dreams. As the beauty of the pumpkin and its seeds. As the star of their heroes and the rainbow of their writers and their artists. So is the history of Haiti: hopes of freedom, reason of living, root of the culture.

Among our blue Caribbean waters we navigate, the islands salute each other, the firm land unites. A drum awakens on time to commemorate the Bicentennial of Haiti’s Independence with the stroke of a bell of symbol.
