IX Festival of Chinese Overseas. 1st. Announcement

Lic. Carmen Eng Acuay, Director of The House of Arts and Chinese Traditions of the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana, and Dr. María Teresa Montes de Oca Choy, President of the Cathedra on Chinese Immigration in Cuba from the High Studies House Fernando Ortiz of Havana University, call to the International Theoretical Conference that will be held from May 26 to May 30, 2006.

The central objective of the Conference will be the gathering of investigators, professionals or not, who study the process of chinese immigration to Cuba and other countries. This meeting will make possible the interchange, the debate and the study in depth of these works.

The main topic will be:

  • The cultural traditions in chinese overseas communities.
  • Connotation and integration.

The subjects to debate will be:

  • Development of the scenic arts: The Theater.
  • Contemporary vision of the Plastic Arts.
  • Music and the dance as expression of the tradition and integration.
  • Literature.
  • Religion.
  • Linguistic studies.
  • Public space and the projection of the community.
  • Others.

Paper's extension will have a minimum of 15 pages and a maximum of 25. They will be presented in printed and digital format. Previously, investigators have to present a brief summary of the lecture.

A Scientific Commission will select the works that are going to participate. There won't be permitted any appeal to his verdict.

The Organizer Committee of the Conference opens a new variant: those research projects not initiated or in process of development, can participate with the proper theoretical and methodological basis. These projects will have a minimum of 10 pages and the same requirements, previously mentioned.

Admission quota: $120.00 USD

It includes:

  • Participation in all the activities of the Festival.

  • Demonstrations of Chinese arts and traditions.
  • Trips by historical, cultural and recreative places.
  • Free access to all the areas of the Feria.

Admission quota for companions: $80.00 USD.

Confirmation of participation: till March 30th, 2005.
