Havana's Casa de las Américas opens a call for submissions for it's 47th Literary Prize competition of 2006. In this year's competition authors from the English speaking Caribbean will be able to participate with works of any genre written in English or Creole and published in those languages between 2002 and 2005. The authors participating this year should abide by the following:
RULES
- Authors can send books of any literary genre, written in English or Creole, and published in those languages over the last four years (2002-2005).
- Native or naturalized Caribbean authors can participate.
- Authors should send three copies of their books, along with their respective personal information.
- No author can send more than one book per genre.
- A single, undividable prize will be granted, consisting of $3000 or its equivalent in the corresponding national currency. The award also includes the translation and publication of the work by Casa de las Américas, assuming there is no other commitment with another publishing house in the Spanish language. The jury will grant mentions if considered necessary, which does not imply any reward or editorial commitment on the part of Casa de las Américas.
- Casa de las Américas will reserve the right to publish up to 10,000 copies of what will be considered the first edition of those books receiving an award, though publication may be as a co-edition. Such rights include not only financial concerns, but also all the graphic characteristics and any other aspects of the first edition.
- Works should be sent to Casa de las Américas, calle 3ra esq. a G, Vedado, Havana 10400, Cuba or to any Cuban embassy, before November 30, 2005.
- Juries will meet in Havana in January, 2006.
- Casa de las Américas will not return originals sent by contestants.
